I’ll be honest – Spain isn’t the cheapest option anymore.

Flights aren’t what they used to be. Accommodation in peak season makes you pause. Even car hire feels heavier than it did a few years ago.

And yet… we chose Spain again.

Not because it was the bargain choice.
Not because it looked best on paper.
But because it felt right.

It’s Familiar – And That Matters More Than I Expected

There’s something comforting about landing somewhere you already understand.

We know how the supermarkets work.
We know what the kids will eat.
We know what an evening walk through town looks like.

There’s no mental gymnastics.

And when you’re travelling as a family, reducing mental load is worth more than saving £150.

We’re Not Chasing “Best Value” Anymore

There was a time when I’d compare destinations obsessively.

Cheaper flights.
Better hotel deal.
More included activities.

But the cheapest option often came with hidden costs:

  • More planning
  • More uncertainty
  • More stress trying to make it “worth it”

Spain might not win on price alone — but it wins on ease.

And ease has value.

The Kids Know What to Expect

That’s underrated.

They know:

  • Beach days are simple
  • Evenings are relaxed
  • Food won’t be a battle

There’s less resistance.
Less negotiating.
Less “this isn’t what I thought it would be.”

When you travel with kids, predictability can be a gift.

It Feels Manageable

Spain feels close enough.

If something goes wrong, it doesn’t feel overwhelming.
If the weather turns, there’s always a café nearby.
If we forget something, we can replace it easily.

That sense of manageability is something I didn’t appreciate when I was younger.

Now, I do.

It’s Not About Cheap Anymore

Spain isn’t the ultra-budget family destination it once was.

But it still offers:

  • Good food at reasonable prices
  • Walkable towns
  • Family-friendly rhythm
  • A pace that doesn’t exhaust us

And right now, that matters more than squeezing every pound.

Final Thoughts

We chose Spain again because it gives us what we need — not because it’s the cheapest option.

Sometimes “value” isn’t about cost.

It’s about how you feel while you’re there.

And for us, Spain still feels easy.
